MACCC Commissioner Steve B. Martin named to NJCAA Committee on Racial Equality
Jackson, Miss. (MACCCAthletics.com) -- Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Commissioner Steve B. Martin has been named to the NJCAA’s Committee on Racial Equality. The committee held its first meeting on Wednesday, September 9.
“It is a privilege to represent the MCCB, MACCC, its membership, student-athletes, coaches, and support staff in this capacity,” Martin said. “As we navigate these turbulent social times, it is important that diversity, inclusion, equity, and compassion are our guiding principles, and we are sensitive to the voices of our student-athletes, staff, and the communities we are blessed to play in. I look forward to working with the committee to amplify these voices.”
The NJCAA Committee on Racial Equality is made up of a multitude of individuals from NJCAA member colleges and the NJCAA National Office to foster various levels of insight, inclusivity, and association-wide involvement. The subcommittee becomes the first of its kind under the NJCAA Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council, serving as another pathway to increase involvement through actions as part of a larger initiative.
“The work of the committee is essential to our overall NJCAA success,” said NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker. “But more importantly, it’s significant in order to help educate our membership on its importance and true understanding.”
Martin is the only person on the committee to have served as a student-athlete, athletic director, NAIA commissioner, and community college commissioner, and is the only sitting commissioner on the committee.
